Who we are

This site is operated by “Silence is a Crime”, a non-profit civic initiative of mental-health and welfare professionals.

We're committed to handling any personal information you share with us responsibly, minimally, and transparently.

What we collect

Contact form: first name, email, subject (optional), and message content. Newsletter opt-in is optional.

Newsletter signup: email address only, with double opt-in confirmation.

Event registration: name, email, and any additional fields explicitly listed on the specific event form.

Technical usage data: IP address and basic browser metadata are stored temporarily to protect against abuse (flood requests, bots, intrusion attempts).

Why we need it

Communication: to reply to messages you send us.

Newsletter: to send periodic updates — only if you opted in.

Events: to confirm your registration, coordinate logistics, and send reminders.

Site security: to detect and block abusive use.

Anonymous statistics: visit counts and popular pages, with no personal identification.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. Ever.

To run the site, some data is processed by professional infrastructure providers — site hosting, database, email delivery, and bot-protection. All providers operate under data-processing agreements (DPAs) and are primarily hosted in Europe.

We don't share your data with ad networks, data brokers, or third parties that are not required for running the service.

In rare cases we may have to disclose information under a lawful court order — we will inform you when the law permits.

How long we keep it

Contact-form messages: retained until handled plus a reasonable follow-up period. Deletion on request.

Newsletter subscribers: retained as long as you're subscribed. One-click unsubscribe at the bottom of every newsletter.

Event registrations: retained for up to one year after the event, then auto-deleted.

Technical usage data: rate-limit data up to 24 hours; security audit logs up to 30 days.

Your rights

Under Israeli Privacy Law (5741-1981) and the EU GDPR, you have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you.

Request correction of inaccurate data.

Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).

Request export of your data in a readable format.

Withdraw consent for specific processing (e.g., newsletter).

File a complaint with the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority or your local EU data-protection authority.

Cookies

We use a minimal set of strictly necessary cookies:

Login cookie (sic_session): set only when you sign into the admin panel. Cleared on logout.

Bot-protection cookie: set on the contact form and the admin login screen.

There are no advertising or commercial-analytics tracking cookies on this site.

Security

Encryption: all traffic is HTTPS-encrypted. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes (argon2id).

Two-factor authentication: available for all admin users and strongly recommended.

Role separation: role-based access control (RBAC) restricts actions per role.

If you spot a security issue, please report it via the contact form.
