Webinar- How do we confront a past that does not pass? The Palestinian psyche facing the continuous Nakba

ליאור בירן

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, one day before Nakba Day, we held the second webinar of the Silence Is a Crime forum, titled: How Do We Encounter a Past That Does Not Pass? The Palestinian Psyche in the Face of the Ongoing Nakba.

The meeting focused on the psychological impact of the Nakba, understood not as a historical event that ended, but as an ongoing reality that continues to repeat itself through different forms of violence, displacement, expulsion, and destruction. From a liberation-oriented analytic perspective, we explored what happens to the psyche when the past does not become memory, but instead persists as a continuous present of collective trauma and ongoing threats of erasure and dispossession.

Dr. Safaa Ghanadri Nasser is a senior clinical psychologist and supervisor, working in private practice in Kafr Yasif and at the “Ma’ana” Mental Health Center in Nazareth. She also teaches and supervises at the Galilee School of Psychotherapy and in the “Meeting Paths” program at the Winnicott Center. Writes and lectures on the intersection between Palestinian identity and mental health treatment.

It was a meaningful gathering, and we thank everyone who participated. For those who could not attend, the lecture can be viewed here.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming conference.
